Ossie Poole Carrigan, age 87, of Taylorsville, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born October 16, 1923 in Alexander County to the late Robert Cook Carrigan and Hattie Mae Little Carrigan, he retired from Carolina Freight as a truck driver for 30 years. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the VFW Post 10,000 and Taylorsville Post 5466. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Jane Rufty Carrigan; five brothers: Monroe, Ronald Knox, Ervin Ray, Sam Carrigan and 1 infant brother; three sisters: Dalphine Loudermelk, Carma Teague and Ethel Brookshire. A daughter, Susan Jane Carrigan Brown, a granddaughter, Kristen Dawn Carrigan and a nephew, Darrell Robinette. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: John L. Carrigan and wife, Frances; and Tom Carrigan and wife, Jackie. One brother: Bill Carrigan. Grandchildren include Teresa Brown Johnson and husband, Darry, Krystal Carrigan and friend Drew, Lauren Connor and husband, Trent, Zachary Carrigan, Windy Webb, and Rebecca Walker. Great-grandchildren include Kara and Caden Webb, Nicholas and Danielle Walker, Samantha and Ashlee Johnson; One brother-in-law, Johnny Rufty and fiancé, Mary Ann Absher; a special niece Pat Robinette and husband, Ralph; a close niece Marilyn Brown; and nephew, Kent Rufty; and a host of family members and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 2:00-2:45 pm at St. Luke Lutheran Church on Church Rd in Taylorsville, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Andrew Miller will officiate. Pallbearers will be Donald Robinette, Josh Rufty, Avery Robinette, Justin Robinette, Kent Rufty, and Tommy Kerley. Honorary Pallbearer will be Garrett Robinette. Memorials may be sent to St. Luke Lutheran Church at 1364 Church Road, Taylorsville. Alexander Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements for the Carrigan family.
