Owen Augustus Braswell,

Owen Augustus Braswell, age 90, of Taylorsville, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at his daughter's house from a lengthy illness. He was born on July 4, 1924 in Whitnel, NC to the late Horace Henry and Julie Etta Kelley Braswell. Owen was a veteran and served in the US Army. He was retired from Broyhill. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Braswell along with three brothers, a sister, and 2 grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include 8 children: Ria Childers and husband, Steve, of Taylorsville, William (Bucky) Braswell and wife, Polly Hall of Hickory, Doris Duncan and husband, Charles of Hiddenite, Roger Braswell and wife, Beth Fogle of Taylorsville, Wanda Wike and husband, Billy of Taylorsville, Debra Burns and husband, Terry of Granite Falls, Renee Braswell Sigmon of Taylorsville and Sandra Denny and husband, Scott of Taylorsville; 21 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Charles A. Braswell; and 1 sister: Mertha Braswell Biddy, both of Taylorsville. Visitation will be Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Beulah Bapitst Church in Taylorsville, NC with the funeral to follow directly after with Rev. Brent Dula officiating. Burial will take place at Macedonia Baptist Church on Macedonia Church Rd. in Taylorsville, NC. Pallbearers include Chuck Duncan, Michael Duncan, David Byrd, Jason Mecimore, Matthew Braswell, Sonny Starnes, and Erick Braswell. Military Rites are arranged with DAV Post 8490 and Post 6 of Hudson.
