Patsy Ruth Bumgarner Mason

Patsy Ruth Bumgarner Mason, 84, of Hiddenite, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024, at Carolina Caring Hospice House in Hickory after a brief period of declining health. 

Born May 2, 1940, in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Allen and Orene Elder Bumgarner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Donald Mason; a daughter, Sheila McNeely; brothers, Benny, Ned, and Walter Bumgarner; sister, Glenda Price; sister-in-law, Judy Reavis; and stepson-in-law, Ray Gaither. 

Left to cherish her memory are son, Gary Miller and wife, Margaret, of Hickory; daughter, Kim Russell and husband, Wayne of Hiddenite; son-in-law, Danny McNeely of Hickory; stepdaughters, Penny Gaither, Vivian Mason, and Julia Prevette and husband, Daniel all of Statesville; stepson, Jerry Mason and wife Jennifer of Hiddenite; grandchildren, Leigh-Ann Bradley and husband, Shawn, Elaine Killian and husband Kyle, Jessica Hancock, Lauren Gaither, Ashley Prevette and husband Derek, Jocelyn Mason, and Jenna Mason; great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Craig and husband, Jordon, Josef Alexander, Sarabeth and Colston Bradley, Kade, Kohen, and Kannon Killian, Wesley Hancock; one great-great grandchild; Julian Craig; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

She spent many years working in the hosiery industry and retired from Broyhill Furniture. During her retirement, she was a loyal friend to many and looked forward to having “sister days”. She was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church in Hiddenite. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, helping others and traveling. She lived her testimony daily and would always take every opportunity to share Christ with others. 

Visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Service Monday July 29, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held July 30, 2024, at White Plains Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Patsy will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jared Moody and Rev. Tony Daniels will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Lail, Brian Bumgarner, Lee Price, Lynn Bumgarner, Jason Goss, and Jerry Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Elder and Olan Tolbert.
