Paul "Barry" Roberts, born on July 12th, 1948, was the oldest of four siblings, born to Kenneth Paul and Grace Evelyn McCall Roberts. He passed away on April 2nd, 2023.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Deborah Reid Roberts, and his siblings Regina Fairchild, Terry Whorley (Jim), and Jeff Roberts. He also leaves behind eight children: Kip Roberts (Dawn), Cory Roberts (Lauren), Elizabeth Roberts, Luke Roberts, Katie Roberts, Laurie Braymer (Jimmy), Hannah Roberts, and Caleb Roberts (Heather), as well as ten grandchildren who affectionately called him Papaw. Barry had several nieces and nephews, and he was also very close to his mother-in-law, Ruth Keever Reid.
Barry loved the Lord Jesus and tried to pattern his life after him. He was known for his great love for his family. Barry found immense joy in spending time with his family and friends, watching his grandchildren play, and reminiscing about old cars. He was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers and loved spending his football Sundays with his family.
Barry Roberts was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam conflict. During his service, he was awarded two Bronze Stars for his bravery and heroism. One of the Bronze Stars was awarded for his exceptional performance in ground operations against hostile forces during the period of 1st October 1968 to 31st May 1969. The second Bronze Star was awarded for his incredible heroism in ground combat. These honors reflect the courage, dedication, and selflessness that Barry demonstrated throughout his military service, and they serve as a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving his country with honor and distinction. Though he had been disabled for the last thirteen years, Barry worked for many years as an automotive service manager, most recently at Abernethy Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge in Lincolnton, NC.
A graveside service to honor and remember Barry's life will be held at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 5th at 1:00 pm. A receiving of friends will immediately follow the service. Pastor Scott Hooks will officiate the service.
