Perry Lee Austin, Sr., 92, of Taylorsville, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Catawba Valley Hospice House. Born on August 31, 1920 in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Charles Austin and Ada Brinkley Austin. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II. His career in the furniture industry was spent at Hickory Manufacturing Co. and Chaircraft. Perry was also a farmer and an avid hunter. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Teague Austin; one grandson, Nick Pennell; one son-in-law, Flake Pennell; four brothers - Ray Austin, Wade Austin, Glenn Austin, and Waver Austin; and two sisters - Hazel Sigman and Lucille Bowman. He is survived by one son, Perry Lee Austin, Jr. and wife Jan, of Taylorsville; two daughters - Dawn Stafford and husband Jerry, of Taylorsville and Peggy Pennell, of Statesville; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Morris officiating. Visitation will follow. Military rites will be provided by the DAV Chapter 84, of Taylorsville and Chapter 6, of Lenoir. Donations may be made in Mr. Austin's name to Catawba Regional Hospice at 3975 Robinson Rd; Newton, NC 28658.
