Phillip "Phil" Chapman, age 84, of the Midway community in Stony Point, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, February 7, 2016. Mr. Chapman was the son of the late David Earl and Emma Lou Dagenhart Chapman. He was born on March 15, 1931 in Alexander County. Mr. Chapman served in US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Phil's Auto Repair in Stony Point. He was an avid baseball and Nascar racing fan. Mr. Chapman enjoyed attending church with his family and friends and loved riding motorcycles.

In addition to his parents Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his sister Milford White, one brother Thomas "Bun" Chapman, a daughter Tanna Shives, and sister in law Linda Chapman.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 28 years, Shirley Williams Chapman, one son Larry Chapman of Stony Point, one daughter Dawn Chapman Fox & husband Jeffrey Dean of Taylorsville, five step children: Denise Pruett of Belmont, NC, Frankie Smith, Debbie Rector both of Stony Point, Lisa Cornelius of Statesville, Gerri Pennix of Stony Point; two brothers: Billy Shaw Chapman & wife Phyllis and David Earl Chapman both of Stony Point; two grandchildren: Sean Brewer of Statesville and Hailey Fox of Taylorsville; thirteen step grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral is Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 3 pm and will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Eddie Jolly and Rev. Keith Childers will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites provided by DAV chapter 84 of Taylorsville and chapter 6 of Hudson. Pallbearers include: Keith Chapman, Dennis Chapman, Chris Chapman, Johnny Chapman, Shannon Chapman, and Jan Brewer. The family requests that in addition to flowers that memorials be made to Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, 215 Mt. Olive Church Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681
