Rev. Dennis Spivey age 67 of Hickory, North Carolina passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. He was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. to the late Harvey McLean and Doris Lee Wilder Spivey who survives on July 9, 1947.
In addition to his Father he was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents Irving and Carrie Parrish Spivey, his Maternal Grandparents Oscar and Beatrice Wilder, and a Uncle Irving Troutman Spivey. Rev. Spivey served in the North Carolina National Guard. Rev. Spivey had served, Aenon Baptist Church in Elm City, NC., Antioch Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Holly Springs Baptist Church of that city, as well as Bethel United Methodist Church in Boone and at the time of his illness, First Advent Christian Church in Hickory.
He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and wife Joye Velva Harrington Spivey, one Daughter Karen Grigg and husband Israel of Mooresville, N.C., one Son Bryant Spivey and wife Karen of Garner, N.C., three Step children, Lori Hall and husband Kevin of Raleigh, N.C., Barry Shew and wife Brandy of North Wilkesboro, N.C., Gary Shew and fiancé, Jessica Bradley of Mooresville, N.C., three Sisters June Long of Ayden, N.C., Sandra Rountree and husband David of Gatesville, N.C., Debbie Evans of Hertford, N.C., one Brother Mark D. Spivey and wife Donna of Hobbsville, N.C., seven Grandchildren Makayla and Makenzie Grigg of Mooresville, Katie and Gracie Spivey of Garner, N.C., Trinity Shew of N Wilkesboro, N.C., Olivia Shew of Mooresville, N.C. and Justin Tyson Shew of Mooresville, N.C., and one Aunt Juanita Chappell of Belvedere, N.C.
Visitation will be at Antioch Baptist Church in Taylorsville, N.C. from 4-8 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Funeral services will be Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church at 3 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Morris and Rev. Barry Shew will officiate.
