Rev. John Walter Parsons, age 77, of Lenoir, formerly of Taylorsville, took that glorious journey to his eternal home on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care to forever be with his Lord & Savior. Born in Catawba County on February 20, 1941, the son of the late David & Effie Flowers Parsons. The greatest day of his life was the day the Lord saved his soul and then called him to preach. Through the Lord, he not only spoke the “word of God” but lived the “word of God” through his life. Rev. Parsons loved his church and his people. Always being a humble servant. He was the pastor at Antioch Baptist Church in Troutman, for 22 years and was a member at Liberty Grove Baptist Church. Including his ministry, John had prior worked at Broyhill Industries and the US Postal Service in maintenance. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty Lou Green Parsons; sons Walter & Kenneth Parsons; and siblings Louella Howell, Joseph Parsons, Hazel Dula, Mary Alice Parsons, & Brenda McCurdy.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include his daughters Betty Louise Parsons and Johnnie Ferguson & husband Gary both of Lenoir; five grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters Molly Wellman & husband Tony of Hiddenite, Rev. Polly Hightower of Lenoir, Rachel Parsons of Taylorsville, and Geraldine Stevenson & husband Gaston of Troutman; brothers David Parsons, Jr. & wife Dixie of Hickory, Hayden Parsons & wife Chris of Winston-Salem, and Joe L. Parsons & wife Valerie of Taylorsville; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The wake for Rev. John Parsons will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Liberty Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Ardeal Roseboro, Rev. Aaron Patterson, Jr., Rev. Mark Parsons, & Rev. Jeris Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the nephews of Rev. Parsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Dula and Junior Flowers.
