Rev. William Otha “Bill” Goble Jr. age 88, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at  Frye Regional Medical Ctr. Born on March 3, 1926 in Alexander County to the late William O. and Alma Elizabeth Patterson Goble, he was a graduate of NC State Univ. with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and later graduated from South Eastern Seminary, with a Bachelor’s in Ministry. Rev. Goble had served Aynor Baptist Church, Aynor, S.C., First Baptist Church, Rutherford College, NC, and was Director or Missions for the Catawba River Baptist Asso. In Morganton, for twenty six years, and in retirement served as interim pastor of the Korean Baptist Church in Charlotte. After moving back to Taylorsville in 1995, he became the Director of Missions for the Alexander Baptist Asso. Mr. Goble was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp during WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Gerald Goble as well as one sister, Ethel Mae Hollar.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Teague Goble of the home; one son Stephen Goble and wife Beverly of Raleigh, and a daughter, Elizabeth Benfield, of Taylorsville. Bill has three grandchildren; Heath Powell of Winterville, NC, Whitney Benfield of Winston Salem, Nick Benfield of Taylorsville, and one great grandchild, Aubrey Powell of Winterville. He has one brother, who survives, Raeford Goble, of Charlotte. There are a number of nieces and nephew.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1:30-2:45 at Antioch Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Morris, Rev. Mark Hollor, Rev. Jerry Gamble, and Rev. Gary Jennings will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by DAV Post 84 of Taylorsville, and Post 6 of Hudson.

Memorials may be made to the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, in care  of Antioch Baptist Church, 580 Antioch Church Rd. Taylorsville, NC 28681.
