Rhoyd Scott, age 80, of Taylorsville passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Alexander County on October 20, 1933 to the late Cleo Scott. Rhoyd served in the Air Force and the US Army for 9 years in both branches. His last occupation was as a food inspector for the USDA and he was involved in the DAV (a life member), NAAV, and the VFW. Rhoyd enjoyed masonry, as well as doing a little bit of everything. Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Geraldine Marshall Scott; and his sister, Virginia Mitchell. Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters: Sheila Scott of Arizona, and Gerrie Mayes and husband James of Stokesdale, NC; son: Rhoyd Eugene Scott of Taylorsville; six grandchildren: David, Jinian and Jonathan Mayes, Heather LeMaster, and Amanda and Patrick Shumate along with several great grandchildren; and a very special friend and caregiver: Lore A. Watts and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Taylorsville.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Carson's Chapel United Methodist Church. After the receiving, service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Millsaps and Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Burial will take place at Taylorsville City Cemetery following the service. Serving as pallbearers are family and friends. Military rites will be provided by DAV Chapter 84, of Taylorsville and Chapter 6, of Hudson. Memorials may be made to Alexander County Hospice.
