Ria Braswell Childers

Ria Bernadette Braswell Childers, age 74, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022, following a short illness. She was born in Alexander County on January 12, 1948, to the late Owen Augustus and Mary Braswell. She was a retired sewer. Ria was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church. Ms. Childers enjoyed traveling and reading. Ria loved her grandkids and cherished spending time with them.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Benny Steve Childers.

Those left to cherish the memories of Ria include her children, Lecticia Starnes (Sonny), Shannon Childers (Brandy) of Taylorsville, Dena Collie of Wilmington, Leja Clyburn of Australia, 17 grandchildren, Trae, Michael, Gabriel, Jonah, Karlee, Elisha, Emma, Lilly, Kadee, Gideon, Ezra, Obi, Ben, Anna, Bret, Liza, Finn, two brothers, Bucky Braswell (Polly), Roger Braswell (Beth), five sisters, Doris Duncan (Charles), Wanda Wike, Debra Burns (Terry), Renee Sigmon, and Sandra Denny (Scott).

A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at East Taylorsville Baptist Church in the Sanctuary from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The service will follow at East Taylorsville Baptist Church at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Rev. Jamie Steele and Rev. Shannon Childers will officiate. Trae Starnes, Michael Childers, Gabriel Childers. Jonah Childers, Elisha Childers, and Sonny Starnes will serve as pallbearers.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Alexander Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
