Richard Shannon Hammer

Richard Shannon Hammer, age 57, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at his home in Iredell County. He was born to the late Franklin D. Hammer and Dorothy Taylor Hammer on Tuesday, July 27, 1965, in Alexander County. In his younger years, Richard was a volunteer fireman in Stony Point. Mr. Hammer was a truck driver for over 40 years, and his handles were Tigger, The Breeze and Sledgehammer. He enjoyed working on his truck and driving a truck. Everything revolved around trucking, family, and his fur babies.

Including his father, he was preceded in death by his God Father, Lee McCoy, and puppy, Tory.

Those left to cherish the memories of Richard include his wife of 20 years, Sarah Hammer; mother, “Dot” Dorothy Hammer; sons, Zachary Hammer and Charles Hammer; sister, Tina Hartwell (Rich); and puppy, Lizzy.

A visitation will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Alexander Funeral Service from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will follow in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel at 3:00 pm. Rev. Scott Hammer will officiate.
