Robert "Bob" Drew Kennedy

Robert “Bob” Drew Kennedy, 71, of Taylorsville passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 6, 2022. He was born in Washington D.C. on November 19, 1950 to the late Frank John and Sherlene Pitra Kennedy. He married Elaine McKenny on June 9, 1974.

Bob was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and was active in the jail ministry in Alexander County. Before moving to North Carolina, he was an ordained Baptist deacon in Maryland and also participated in the jail ministry. He loved meeting people who he had helped lead to salvation and he always would tell anyone who would listen about Jesus. He owned an auto body shop in Annapolis, Maryland where he lived for over 30 years. One of his favorite hobbies was building World War II models. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially outdoors.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Betty Hadacek Pitra and his brothers, Keith and Donald Kennedy. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Elaine McKenny Kennedy, daughters Sherlene (Todd) Sommers and Shellie Kennedy (David) Taylor, grandchildren Lauren Belski, Dalton (Whitney) Belski, Caleb Sommers, and Nathaniel Taylor, and great-grandchildren Karma and Isabella.

The family will receive friends at noon, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm at Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Taylorsville on Thursday, November 10. Rev. Paul Schronce will officiate. David Taylor Jr., Todd Sommers, Caleb Sommers, Dalton Belski, Dustin Richards, and Joe Barnes will serve as pallbearers. David Taylor Sr., Gene Frye, Lanny Stewart, Tom Scala, Mike Dagenhart, and Fred Wike will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alexander Prison Ministries at P.O. Box 308 Taylorsville NC 28681. Alexander Funeral Home will be serving the family of Robert Kennedy.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the friends, family, and Mt. Herman Church members who came forward and brought food, drinks, and love in the aftermath of Bob’s passing. He was truly a servant of God and his legacy will be remembered by those who witnessed his love for Christ.
