Robert Johnson "Bob",

Robert Hundley “Bob” Johnson, age 80, of the Ellendale Community passed away at his residence  on Thursday, April 12, 2012.  Born in Lynchburg, VA on August 20, 1931, to the late John Daniel and Evie Godsey Johnson, he was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous and had worked extensively with the program in the prison system and supported the Dart Program in Alexander County.  Bob enjoyed golf and had earned a pilot’s license and flew for a number of years.  Bob had been an everyday part of the Ellendale Convenience Store, which he helped operate with his family.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Johnson Jr. and one sister, Elaine Martin.    He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy Phillips Johnson as well as one daughter, April J. Waters and husband Donald of South Africa; along with three sons, Robert H. Johnson Jr. and wife Donna; Todd A. Johnson, all of Taylorsville, and Mark A. Johnson and wife Kelly of Mocksville, NC.   Mr. Johnson has eight grandchildren, Julia McLaughlin and husband, Jessie; and Jordan Johnson all of Taylorsville. Nike VanAlstine and husband Anthony of Columbia, SC.   Amber Pitt and husband Nicholas of Tokyo, Japan.  Magan Johnson of Charlotte; Josh Eder of Greensboro, NC; Chase Johnson and Easton Johnson both of Mocksville, NC.  Great grandchildren include Madeline, Jude, and Eden McLaughlin all of Taylorsville, along with Gabriel VanAlstine, of Columbia, SC.      Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 14 from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Funeral services will be on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 pm at East Taylorsville Baptist Church.  The deceased will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Rev. Mark Marshall and Rev. Gary W. Jennings will officiate.
