Robert Marion Hampton, age 86, of Taylorsville passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Valley Nursing Center. He was born on December 2, 1925 to the late George Claiborne and Martha Pearl Alexander Hampton. Robert worked in the furniture industry for Clayton Marcus building frames. He was also a former Hickory City Police Officer and a WWII veteran. He enjoyed watching baseball, football, eating cookies, playing with his dogs and was an avid Redskins and Yankees fan. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Faye Hampton; three brothers, Scott and George Hampton and James Cowan; and four sisters, Tilda Kilgore, Lois Ledbetter, Martha Case and Ollie Lehr. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Deborah Drum and husband Roger of Statesville; two sons, Robert Stuart Hampton and wife Faye and Roger Steven Hampton and wife Wanda all of Taylorsville; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. Graveside service will be Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Military rights will be provided by the DAV Post 10,000.
