Roger Gene Childress, age 60, born on Saturday, December 28, 1963, in Wilkes County, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County. He left a legacy of hard work and dedication as a farmer in the poultry industry. His commitment to his career was matched only by the passion he held for his hobbies, which included fishing, playing horseshoe, and bowling.

Roger will be fondly remembered by his loving family. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Childress, and his siblings: sisters Deby Evans (Reggie) of Conover, and Karen Echerd (Eugene), as well as his brother Robert Childress (Tina). In addition to his immediate family, Roger was cherished by his special friend Bobbie Lackey, and by two special stepdaughters Ashley Wells (Jerry) and Tammy Bruce (Matt). He leaves behind three nieces, three nephews, and seven special nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Gene Childress, who shaped much of Roger's early life and values. Together, they shared a bond that transcends time.

A visitation honoring Roger's life will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 25, 2024, allowing family and friends to come together in remembrance and celebration of his life. Burial will follow in the Mt. Herman Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Steve Dagenhart and Rev. Paul Schronce will officiate. Reggie Evans, Eugene Echerd, Matt Bruce, Jerry Icenhour, Brock Thompson, and Justin Childress will serve as pallbearers.

Roger Childress leaves behind a legacy that embodies kindness, love, and a zest for life, reminding all who knew him of the simple joys and deep connections that define our time on earth.
