Roger Wilson Johnson, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, age 84, of Taylorsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012.  He was born on September 5th, 1927 in Alexander county to parents Willie and Ida Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Opal H. Johnson; and 2 sons: Keith and Danny Johnson; as well as a step-grandson, Ray Bowles. He is also preceded in death by 4 siblings: Vaughn Johnson, Alba Pearson, Hoye Johnson, and Dewhitt Johnson.  Roger spent many years raising his children and sharing his love of farming with mules and making furniture.  Those left to cherish his memory are 9 children: Jerry Hubbard and wife Joyce, Dale Johnson and wife Faye, Dwain Johnson and wife Barbara - all of Taylorsville, Ann and Dennis Hall of Granite Falls, Douglas Johnson and wife Lori of Hiddenite, Carol Bingman and husband Bruce, Kathy Shoemaker and husband Ronnie - all of Statesville, and Steve and Sam Johnson of the home.  Also left to cherish his memory are 4 siblings: Mary Lou Cashett of High Point, Nellie Gregory of Statesville, Ray Johnson and wife Margaret of Taylorsville, and Arnold Johnson and wife Carolyn of Hiddenite; 2 sisters-in-law: Betty Johnson of Hildebran and Mary Johnson of Taylorsville; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.  Visitation on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at Alexander Funeral Service from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  Service Friday, February 10th, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. where Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. Robert Barnette will officiate.  The body will lie in state at the church half an hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Alexander Funeral Service has been entrusted with arrangements.
