Roy Franklin Helton, age 85, born in Alexander County on Monday, January 2, 1939, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County. He lived a life that reflected commitment and love, both in his professional endeavors and family relationships.
Roy dedicated 48 years of his life to Sherrills Furniture, where he earned respect as a diligent worker before retiring. His work ethic was matched only by his devotion to his family. He was a family man who loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. Roy's legacy is remembered not only in his professional contributions but also through the deep bonds he nurtured with those he held dear.
In addition to his work and family focus, Roy was a Christian and a very faithful man. He was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church and fervently participated in community service, notably with Harry's Hands. His interests extended to the enjoyment of gardening, where he found peace and fulfillment in nurturing the earth.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Helton; his children, Gregory Helton (Lonna), Beverly Sharpe (Mark), and Dinah Clonch (Bruce); his sister, Phyllis Killian (Jim); and his brothers, Dwight Helton and Lynn Helton. Roy was also the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, and he found joy in the company of his twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Esther Bolick Helton; his brother, Charles Ray Helton; and his infant brother, Paul Helton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm at Antioch Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at Antioch Baptist Church at 3:00 pm.
