Roy Ray Johnson

Roy Ray Johnson, age 78, born on Tuesday, June 25, 1946, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Sherrills Ford Hospice House in Catawba County. He led a life characterized by dedication, love for family, and a relentless spirit of hard work.

Roy had a fruitful career, having retired from Lowe's Hardware before embarking on a new path in insurance sales. His professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence and a keen understanding of customer needs.

Education was important to Roy; he earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Appalachian State University, which laid the foundation for his successful career. Beyond his professional pursuits, he found joy in simple pleasures. Roy cherished collecting coins, woodworking, and fishing—activities that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and nature. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Most importantly, Roy loved his family deeply, valuing every moment spent with them. He is survived by his beloved family members, including his son Michael Johnson (Patricia) and daughter Kristi Johnson, along with his grandchildren John Johnson, Sarah Horner (Bryson), and Leslie Johnson. He is also remembered by his siblings JC Johnson, Ellen Durmire, Tony Johnson, Roger Johnson, and Van Johnson, as well as several nieces and nephews who carry forward his legacy of love.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Edmond and Agnes Johnson, his wife Joan Johnson, and his brother RD Johnson. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Alexander Funeral Service located at 193 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am in the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Mark Bumgarner will officiate. Inurnment will be with the family.
