Ruth White Smith,

Ruth Jane White Smith, 96 of Hiddenite passed away in Iredell Memorial Hospital Friday morning, August 5.  She was born in AlexanderCounty, November 20, 1914 to the late Marvin and Dorcus Meadows White.  She was a member of PilgrimBaptistChurch.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gaither Odell Smith.  Three sisters:  Ida Mitchell, Eva Childers, and Tressie Boone.  Four brothers Grady White, James White “Babe”, Escar White, and Veryl White.  Survivors include one daughter Peggy Meadows and husband Paul of Hiddenite.  Grandchildren include Craig Meadows and wife Lori of Hiddenite, Renee Campbell and husband Randy of Union Grove.  Great-grandchildren are Shelbi Meadows, Carrie Campbell and fiancé’ Wesley Shell, and Chelsea Campbell; one Step-great-grandchild, Allen Ward; and one brother Lynn White and wife Lexine of Statesville, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation for Ms. Smith will be held at Alexander Funeral Service on Sunday, August 7 from 6:00-7:30 pm.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 8th at 2:00 pm at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hiddenite.  The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.  Rev. Randy Campbell and Rev. Tom Lambert will officiate.  The burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Alexander Funeral & Cremation Service.
