Ruth McIlwain Wurz, age 98, of Taylorsville, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Brian Center of Viewmont. She was born on January 18, 1916 in Philadelphia to the late Wilbur and Martha McIlwain. Ruth retired as a secretary and attended Newton-Conover Gospel Fellowship. She conducted a community Girls Bible Class for many years and was a Sunday School teacher. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters: Jean E. McIlwain and Rhoda McIlwain; and husband: Ervin W. Wurz. Those left to cherish her memory include son: Phillip and wife Mickee Wurz of Bethlehem; grandchildren: Jonathan Wurz, Jordan Wurz, and Christopher Wurz of Taylorsville; 2 foster children who became her own: Teresa Levan Brookshire of Taylorsville, and Eddie Levan of Fernlee, Nevada; as well as numerous others whom she cared for over the years; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm at Alexander Funeral Service. The service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 pm with Pastor Andy Schaper officiating. Burial will be at Taylorsville City cemetery. Pallbearers include Jonathan Wurz, Jordan Wurz, Christopher Wurz, Scott Brookshire, Kevin Brookshire, and Matt Levan.
