Ruth Elizabeth Bentley McLain, age 80, of Hiddenite made her journey home to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on May 9, 1938 in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Smith Howard & Elsie Childers Bentley. During her career she worked as a seamstress, but the Lord gave her a special talent as a wonderful artist. Ruth was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served 40 plus years as a Sunday school teacher. She had a special love for the Lord and her family. Along with painting, Ruth enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, sewing, and feeding the birds. She was a jewel in this world that will truly be missed but will forever be in our hearts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her caring & loving husband of 60 years Edward “Edd” William McLain of the home; sons Marty & Susan McLain, Barry & Carol McLain, and Bradley & Tammy McLain all of Hiddenite; grandchildren Jessica, Darren, Kelly, Tyler, & Josh McLain; five great-grandchildren; brothers Ray & Gary Bentley; sisters Marie Sprinkle & Irene Lewis; along with a number of nephews and nieces.
