Sadie Elizabeth Starnes Austin, age 84, of Taylorsville, overcame by the Mercy of God on Friday, June 5, 2015, at her home. Her beloved family gathered around her as she peacefully entered into heaven. Mrs. Austin was the wife of Dewey P. Austin, Sr. The couple had been happily married for sixty-five years.
Mrs. Austin was born January 6, 1931, to parents Shafter Alonzo Starnes and Alice Irene Austin, who both preceded her in death. Her brothers, Howard Starnes and Adrian Starnes, preceded her in death as well.
Those left to cherish Mrs. Austin’s memory are her husband, Dewey Austin, Sr. of the home; her daughter, Denise Austin Rudisill and husband David; her son, Dewey (Dirk) P. Austin, Jr. and wife Wesley; grandsons, Caleb Jones Austin and Cohen Douglas Austin; her brothers, Alden Starnes (Margaret, deceased) and Lonnie Starnes (Jeanette). Mrs. Austin was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and a great, great niece and nephew.
Mrs. Austin was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and ministered to children as a Sunday School teacher for forty-five years. After that time Mrs. Austin became a member of the Ruth’s Helpers Class where she was a faithful member for several years. She loved flowers and took care of a great variety of plants in her yard. Mrs. Austin was a great baker as well and satisfied many a hungry person with her wonderful cakes and pies.
The family will receive friends at Antioch Baptist Church on Sunday evening, June 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Mrs. Austin’s funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at the church. Pallbearers will be Patrick Starnes, Ray Welborn, Martin Garvin, Jerry Bowman, Greg Bowman, and Shawn Pennell. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Austin, Cohen Austin, Lonnie Starnes, Alden Starnes, Terry Myers, and David Rudisill. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mark Morris and Rev. Mike Johnson.
Mrs. Austin’s family wishes to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care she received through excellent caregivers and Caldwell County Hospice. The family would also like to thank the numerous friends and neighbors who made it possible for her to stay at home during her illness of fifteen years.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Children’s Program or Caldwell County Hospice.
