Sally McElveen Moore, age 69, of Statesville went to her heavenly home on January 7, 2013 at Gordon Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 19, 1943 in Savannah, GA to the late H.B. (Bill) and Louise Scott McElveen. On March 2, 1985 she married Kenneth F. Moore, of the home. Sally graduated from Groves High School and went on to graduate from Toccoa Falls Bible College and she also attended Armstrong State College. For many years she taught in Christian Schools and in later years worked as an administrative assistant in several churches. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she taught the Potter's Clay Sunday School Class and the Deeper Life Women's Ministry. Survivors include her husband; two-step children - Christopher F. Moore (Crystal), of Statesville and Christina M. Pennington (Earl), of Jefferson, NC; five grandsons - Ricky and Dustin Moore, of Statesville and Matthew, Joshua and Jacob Pennington, of Jefferson; a brother - James W. McElveen (Martha), of Marion and a nephew and niece. She also had several special cousins, family members and friends as well as her canine - Bear. We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to Scarlett Swan, Kim Ashley and Mary Simon of Hospice for their help and care during the last months of Sally's life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church in Statesville. Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 am at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. James Moore, Rev. Mark Robinette and Rev. Joey Campbell officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Hospice of Iredell County at 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 29677.
