Sarah Bernice Harrington Bost, age 92, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Wilmington, NC. She had been in declining health for several years. Bernice was the daughter of the late Lee and Minnie Harrington of Hiddenite, NC. She was born on June 12, 1921 and was one of eight children. Bernice was a person who believed in service to others, including her mother, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was a three year civilian employee of the Dept. of Navy in Washington, D. C. during World War II. She raised four children and cared for the children and parents of many others. She was a good friend, deeply religious, humble and kind. Her family and friends were of the utmost importance to her. Like her mother and sisters, she was a wonderful letter writer and enjoyed family genealogy. She was a member of the Alexander County Home Extension Club and was active in the club fair activities for many years. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Morris, Max, Lynn and Kent; sisters: Norma Delamar, and Ruth Nicholaides; her oldest son: Darwin Ernest Bost; sisters-in-law: Betty Harrington and Francis Harrington; brothers-in-law: Carl Delamar, Nick Nicholaides and Roy Norton. She is survived by her twin sister: Bonnie Harrington Norton, of Statesville, NC; two daughters: Sandra Siemering, and her husband, Ed, Amy Germany, and her husband, Greg, all of Wilmington, NC; one son, Robin Bost of Taylorsville, NC; two granddaughters: Deidra Gilley, and her husband, Keith, of Fletcher, NC, and Sarah Gryder Bost, of San Juan Island, Washington State; one great-granddaughter: Amelia Rose Gilley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who all lived large in her heart. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Allene Harrington and Ruth Harrington.
Arrangements will be conducted at Alexander Funeral Service with the receiving from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2014. The service will be held at Rocky Springs United Methodist Church in Hiddenite, NC at 3:00 pm with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Reverend David Ridenhour will officiate, and Nancy Kerley will be the pianist.
