Steven Howard Sprinkle, 77, born on Thursday, February 20, 1947, in Iredell County, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Catawba County, leaving behind a legacy etched in the hearts of those who loved him. He was the embodiment of unwavering love for both his family and his faith in God, that illuminated his life and guided his actions throughout his remarkable journey.
A devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Icenhour Sprinkle, they shared a profound bond that spanned 58 vibrant years. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising their children, Marcia Garland and her husband Steve, Sonya Kiziah and her husband Greg, and Jonathan Sprinkle and his wife Megan. Their home became a haven filled with laughter and joy, where the love they shared rippled into the lives of their cherished grandchildren, Lance Garland, Taylor Garland, Luke Kiziah, Riley Kiziah, Logan Sprinkle, Roslynn Sprinkle, and Allie Sprinkle. Steve’s legacy is further enriched by his brothers, Gary Sprinkle and his wife Gloria, and Audie Sprinkle and his wife Vanessa, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Steve’s career as a manager at Sears spanned over three decades, marked by a tenacity and dedication that inspired those around him. He possessed an uncanny ability to tackle any challenge, whether it was a simple repair or a complex project. His family often marveled at his ability, never ceasing to be amazed by his skills in fixing and renovating houses, a testament to his inexhaustible spirit. Outdoors, he found peace and fulfillment, relishing every moment spent fishing, farming, or working amid the beauty of nature.
A proud veteran, Steve selflessly served his country in the United States Navy during the tumultuous period of the Vietnam War. He carried that pride with him for the rest of his life as a member of VFW Post 10,000, where friendships blossomed among those who shared similar experiences. He was a charter member of Berea Baptist Church in Hiddenite and his dedication as a deacon at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he was an active member, embodied a life committed to service and community.
Education shaped his journey as well, having graduated from Hiddenite High School, acquired an Associate’s Degree from Catawba Valley Community College, and attended Appalachian State University. Each experience contributed to the fabric of the man he became—a man of determination and compassion, who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
A visitation will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in the Township of Taylorsville, on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. Rev.
