Stony Wayne Speaks, age 49, a beloved husband, father, pappy, son, and friend, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston Salem. Born on Sunday, October 20, 1974, in Wilkes County, Stony grew up cherishing the values of family and community that defined his life. Stony was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Union Grove.
Stony was a devoted family man, investing his time and love into his children and grandchildren. He delighted in spending time with them, often teasing and playfully engaging with the kids and grandkids. His warmth and affection created cherished memories that will last a lifetime. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Shanna Speaks, and their sons, Stony Dylan Speaks (Lindsay, aka “Boo”) and Chanler Drake Speaks. Stony's legacy will be further carried on by his grandchildren, Elijah Carter Speaks, Luke Andrew Speaks, and the anticipated arrival of a third grandbaby.
Stony's life was filled with interests that brought him joy. He had a passion for truck shows, relishing the opportunity to showcase his beloved truck. He also enjoyed shooting guns, riding motorcycles, and fishing, activities that added adventure and excitement to his life. Most of all he enjoyed sharing these interests with his wife, kids, and grandkids.
He was the son of Wayne and Janie Speaks and held a special bond with his sister, Angel Caldwell. His affectionate nature extended to his grandmother, Helen Speaks, extended family, including mother-in-law Donna Shumaker (Donnie) and father-in-law John Mooe (Jewel), along with several nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members.
Stony is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, J.D. and Maggie Clark, and his paternal grandfather, L.P. Speaks.
A visitation in honor of Stony Wayne Speaks will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church, located at 619 Oakley Ridge Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Stephen Pope and Pastor Bruce Rhoades will officiate. Nathan Comer, Titus Comer, Ricky Gadbois, Franco Graham, Gage Caldwell, and Ryan Hurley will serve as pallbearers.
The family will accept flowers.
His loss leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him, yet the love he shared and the memories he created will continue to resonate within the hearts of his family and friends.
