Thomas Norman Barber,

Thomas "Tommy" Norman Barber, age 60, of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at his residence. Born August 5, 1952 to the late John Daniel and Gracie "Grace" Maybelle Barber. Tommy was a member of Millersville Baptist Church where he sung in the church choir. Before he became disabled he worked in the furniture business springing up. He also enjoyed going to the Alexander County Senior Center for the Musicians "Jam" on Mondays.  Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers - Larry, John Jr., Fred, Ernie and Johnny Barber and sister - Nancy Barber. Those left to cherish his memory include his partner of almost 35 years - Judy C. Gibson of the home; brothers - Herman Franklin Barber and wife Francis, David Lee Barber and Michael A. Barber and wife Glenda, all of Taylorsville; sisters - Linda B. Rice of Bethlehem, Betty Killian and husband Dwight of Hickory, Diane Armstrong and husband Robert "Bob" of California, and Annie May Bebber of Taylorsville; three stepchildren - Tammy Myers of Polly's Island, SC, Chris Gibson of Hickory and Bobby Keener, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia and 6 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm at Millersville Baptist Church and service will follow at 4:00pm with the Rev. Michael Barber and Rev. Brian Kerley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Millersville Baptist Church - Building Fund @ 130 Millersville Church Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
