Viola Lee Lackey Stevenson, age 74, of Hiddenite, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Alexander County on December 9, 1939 to the late Walter Alonzo Lackey and Lena O. Lambert Lackey. Viola was employed by Hunt Manufacturing for 39 years and attended Stony Point School. She loved her grandchildren, the beach and the mountains. Viola was very active at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Michael Lafferty. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Hoyle Stevenson; daughter: Loria L. Lafferty and husband, Ed; grandchildren: Shawn Atwood and wife, Amanda, and Christopher Atwood and wife, Emily; step-granddaughter: Ashlee Lafferty; great-grandchildren: Tatum Atwood and Cloey Atwood; step great granddaughter: Sophia Sergent; brothers: Henry Russell Lackey and wife, Barbara, and Grier Lackey and Donna Kellow; and nieces and nephews: Howard Lackey, Judy Keffer, Heather Torrence, and Lena Lackey.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Service. The funeral service will be Friday, April 25, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
