Wanda Jean Williams Peckham, a beloved horse trainer and a beacon of independence, peacefully passed away on December 6, 2024, in Catawba County, NC, following an extended illness. Born on April 28, 1948, in Up State New York, Wanda dedicated her life to her passion for horses and was well-regarded in her field. Wanda was crafted by her Nazarene faith and practiced her faith in her everyday life.
Throughout her career, Wanda thrived as a horse trainer, demonstrating not only expertise but also an unwavering love for what she did. Her commitment to her work was evident to all who knew her, and her impact on the equestrian community will be remembered fondly.
Wanda’s educational achievements include earning a riding instructor certificate, a testament to her dedication to her craft and her desire to share her knowledge with others. Her personality was described as extremely independent, a trait that served her well in both her professional and personal life.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Tamara Putnam (Mark); her son, Eric Peckham (Lisa); her grandchildren: Alona Ball (Steve), Emilee Goralski (Zachary), and Jakob Peckham; and her great granddaughter, Aubree Goralski.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Lester Williams; her mother, Vivian Yerke Williams; and her husband, William Mason Peckham.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 14, 2024, at Lazy P Ranch in Claremont, NC, starting at 11:00 AM. Friends, family, and all who were touched by Wanda's incredible spirit are welcomed to join in honoring her memory and celebrating the joy she brought into the lives of many. Her native heritage will be highlighted, a BBQ lunch will be included, a video of her life will be shown throughout the service, a memorial talk by Jim Greer, and her horse will give her one last ceremonial ride with a portion of her cremains.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lazy P Ranch where her horse was donated and still resides, at 7802 Riverbend Rd, Claremont, NC 28610, or your equine rescue of your choice, including racehorse.
