Wesley Howard Starnes

Wesley Howard Starnes, age 58, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Duke Hospice - Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. Born on Wednesday, July 6, 1966, in Catawba County, to the late John Quincy Starnes and Melva Jean Curtis Starnes.

Wesley served as a regional vice president in financial services for Primerica, where he built a reputation for integrity and dedication. Wesley’s heart was rooted deeply in his family, and he found joy in watching his children play sports. These moments were not just pastimes for him; they were opportunities to impart life lessons that he so relished teaching.

Wesley shared a remarkable partnership of 31 years with his beloved wife, Sandy Marley Starnes. Two children he loved dearly Zack Starnes and Hannah Starnes Strayer, husband Teddy. Together, they navigated the journey of life, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and shared experiences. His pride in their family extended to his brother, Darrell Starnes, and his nieces, Abby Starnes and Leah Starnes, along with a number of special friends and cousins who were more like brothers and sisters, all of whom he adored.

Wesley was a member of Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, where he forged connections that reflected his profound faith and commitment to his community. Additionally, he enjoyed numerous hobbies, including fishing, football, wrestling, clearance shopping, target shooting, and collecting knives, all of which showcased his diverse interests and creative talents. His fondness for his dogs and the enjoyment he found in RealTree Camo further illustrated his love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures in life.

Visitation to celebrate Wesley’s life will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church located at 9042 NC 127, Hickory, NC 28601. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 4:00 pm, at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Bradley Caldwell and Pastor Jason Guyer will officiate. Randy Hall, Steve Garland, Scott Bowman, Kevin Fox, Scott Bowman, Jeff Bentley, Teddy Strayer, Tyler Starnes, and Raishek Millsaps will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, 9042 NC 127, Hickory, NC 28601
