William Walter Elder, age 84, of the Rocky Springs Community, Hiddenite, passed away at his residence, on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Born in Alexander county to the late Fred Clarence and Bertha Leona Herman Elder, on March 5, 1931, he was a lifelong member of Carson's Chapel United Methodist Church. William was retired from Hancock and Moore Furniture in Taylorsville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by ten siblings: Ralph, Roy, Paul, Howard, Clarence and Rev. Ples Elder, along with sisters, Lois Irene Icard, Dorothy Barnes, Mary Lou Icard and Colene Elder. He was an active farmer and loved raising cattle and was an avid gardener. He was the happiest, working on the farm.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Anne Crouch Elder of the home. Four children, Keith Elder and wife Shelley, Rickey Elder and wife Sonya, all of Hiddenite, Debra Pennell and fiancé Mike Daniels, Lisa Millsaps and husband Keith, all of Taylorsville. He has one brother, Junior Elder of Claremont.
Grandchildren include: Amber and close friend Josh Davis, Riley, Lily, Tonya Elder and fiancé Chris Murray, Kevin Jolly, Heidi, Haley Millsaps and fiancé Michael Rood, and Kassie Pennell. Great grand children include Keegan Jolly and Addison Rood.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, from 2-4 pm at Alexander Funeral Service with funeral services at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Kevin White, Rev. Byron Repass and Rev. Gary Jennings will officate. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cook, David Crouch, Logan Chapman, Kevin Jolly, Tyler Zimmerman, and Michael Rood. Burial will follow in the Carson Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
