Wilma Mikeal Fairchild

August 30, 1933 — August 24, 2024

Taylorsville

Wilma Mikeal Fairchild, a beloved member of her family, passed away on August 24, 2024, at Frye Regional Medical Center, days shy of her 91st birthday. She was born on August 30, 1933, in Wilkes County, where she began her journey through life, filled with a spirit that would nurture many.

For 17 years, Wilma co-owned Burger Basket with her husband. Prior to this, she dedicated 18 years of her life working at Carpenter Co., a testament to her hard work and resilience throughout her career.

Wilma was not only a devoted professional but also a cherished homemaker who found joy in caring for her children and grandchildren. She took immense pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming home, making it a haven where many gathered, shared laughter, and created lasting memories.

She is survived by her three sons, Jeffrey Fairchild, Mark Fairchild, and Anthony Fairchild (Robin). Wilma also leaves behind her loving siblings: sisters Shirley Johnston and Linda Morrison, and brothers Roy Triplett (Sherlynn) and Clay Triplett (Lois). Her legacy further lives on in her grandchildren: Dylan Fairchild and fiancée Brianna Hucks, Kaley Fairchild, Evan Fairchild, Kyler Fairchild (Katelyn), Karly Fairchild, Macy Fairchild, and Maddox Fairchild. Additionally, she was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two great-grandchildren and enjoyed the company of two step-great-grandchildren, Kason Hucks and Karrigan Hucks. Wilma also held a special place in her heart for a number of nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Stewart Fairchild, whose companionship defined her life. She was also welcomed into the arms of those who went before her: her father Joseph Mikeal, mother Ruth Eller Mikeal, an infant daughter, sister Betty Mikeal, and brother Johnny Triplett.

Visitation will be held on August 27, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Service. A funeral service to celebrate her life will take place on Wednesday August 28, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church. Wilma will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Kyler Fairchild, Dylan Fairchild, Maddox Fairchild, Kason Hucks, Todd Reese, and Jeff Looper will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Finding Hope Ministries North Carolina at PO Box 309 Taylorsville, NC 28681. Donations will go to help build the children’s home here in Alexander County.
