Put It Away

When attending a funeral, it is perfectly normal and expected that you will have your cellphone with you. This being said, this does not mean that you should have it out in the open necessarily. Cellphones are everywhere these days, so nobody really expects people to leave theirs at home, but when it comes to attending a funeral service there are rules and expectations to follow and meet. When entering the location of the service, the first thing you’ll want to do is to put your cellphone on either silent or vibrate. Additionally, you could always opt for the safest option and turn the phone off altogether. Also, taking photos during the service is another huge no-no. While you may be interested in documenting the moment, chances are extremely high that others will see this action as disrespectful and inconsiderate. For the immediate family, this is a very difficult moment in their life and certainly not one they’d be at all interested in documenting. So, we recommend playing it safe and turning the phone off.

Keep it Discreet

While at the funeral service, if you find that you absolutely must use your cellphone then we recommend walking out of the service and into a hallway or another location you will not be seen. Additionally, it’s important to note the difference between turning your phone on silent and turning it on vibrate. While both options are acceptable while at a service, the vibrate function as the likely chance of being heard during quiet moments during the service. We recommend keeping this in mind and turning your phone on silent instead to play it safe.

Avoid Pictures

Again, while you may be really interested and eager to take photos during the service, we really advise against it. When at a funeral service, we want to do all that we can to avoid being a distraction or coming off as disrespectful, so a camera flash in the middle of the service is completely out of the question. If you must take photos of either the guests or whatever else, we recommend speaking with the immediate family first for their thoughts and opinion. If they agree to you taking photos, we suggest saving them for when everyone is outdoors and away from the service inside. Learn more about our funeral home in Elsa, TX!
